One
of the most persistent myths of San Andreas, is the romours
of Leatherface excisting as a non-mission character in the game.
There has been several claims of players to have met him in
the woods or in a cabin, but no pictures has proven this, and
no recepies on how to make it happen has worked. I myself cheated
up a thunderstorm, and stood immovable in a cabin in the Panopticon,
and waited a full week (game time) for this grim creature to
arrive. And I sat in front of my computer screen, listening
for deviant sounds from the woods, like chainsaw rattle, screams,
footsteps, and stared my eyes dry. Boy, it feels kinda stupid
afterwards, but I guess, one choose to believe, as
one wants to believe. And in this case, I have done
hours upon hours of research, travelling the Badlands by foot,
running around in the woods of San Andreas, and reading the
numerous forums on the net, in my brave hunt for Leatherface,
finding noone.the least alike such a creature.
Yet, San Andreas does contain several possible references
to the movie The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (TTCM), and to Ed Gein
himself. I have collected some backgrund material on Ed Gein
and TTCM, and will point out the actual references found in
the game of Grand Theft Auto San Andreas.
There has of course been some fake pictures around, but they
turned out to be CJ with a jumpsuit, hockeymask and chainsaw
(all available in the game), or the pictures is way to bad to
really prove it's even from GTA. Here are some examples of such
fakes, claiming to be meetings with Leatherface.
There's also plenty of areas in San Andreas, where you never
meet people, cars, or anything else - just static nature.
Pictures of other characters in these places would therefore
seemingly prove you had experienced something noone else had.
But wrong - it's possible to enter a cheat code that enables
you to recruit anyone into your gang. You can then have them
follow you in a vehicle, and they will leap out of the car when
you do.
Just to show how easy it is to make a fake, I brought the boldheaded
hillbilly in a red Walton truck up to the Mount Chilliad cabin.
Then I made a dent in the front bumper of it. I could have posted
some story on a forum, telling that I found the red truck and/or
that I was attacked by Leatherface at this usually deserted
place - If I made some more effort in getting a good pictures
to support this story, I'm sure it would arouse great interest.
There is obviously no such thing as a Leatherface character
to be found in the game, but there are severeal objects in the
game which indicates that Rockstar on purpose or by coincidence
made several references to the real-life killer Ed Gein and
the movie The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (TTCM).
I have collected background material on both Ed Gein and TTCM,
and will try to explain the relations between these and the
probable in-game references to them.
