There has been many myths
around the game Grand Theft Auto San Andreas, telling about
hidden surprises in the game. Some of the speculations are based
upon hints in the game, like the map of San Andreas with seven
marked spots on it, found in the game interiors. There has been
numerous claims that people saw things while playing the game,
but none of them has been followed by real pictures or videos
to prove them. There has been some pictures, most of them proven
to be fake, and/or the descriptions of how to get things to
happen has failed.
To start off in the wrong end, here are some of the fake pictures:

The two pics with the chainsaw are told to be Leatherface, or
Piggsy, but it turns out to be Carl Johnson (the main character
of the game) in a jumpsuit and a hockeymask. The chainsaw is
one of the available weapons in the game. The pictures of bigfoot
and the UFO are manipulated fakes.
Players have taken great interest in the myths of San Andreas,
and there has been several more or less organized hunts to track
them down, and uncountable forum discussions.
This is the most popular myths:
| Myths
of San Andreas: |
| • Bigfoot |
• UFO's |
| • Piggsy (from the
R* game "Manhunt") |
• Dinosaurs |
| • Leatherface (from
"The Texas chainsaw massacre") |
• A sea monster |
| • Ed Gein (the killer
TTCM was based on) |
• Animals |
| • Jaws |
• A secret island |
| • Ghost cars |
• An underwater world |
| • The ghost of CJ's
mother |
• Ghost graffiti |
| • The Epsilon cult |
• Blue Hell |
The only myths actually exposed, is the ghost cars, the ghost
graffiti and Blue Hell, in addition to the great amount of
references to the Epsilon cult, and some references to Ed
Gein and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
What is a myth?
Wikipedia says: "Myth
- from (mythos) identifies a sacred story or narrative containing
supernatural, divine or heroic beings, arranged in a coherent
system, passed down orally, and linked to the spiritual or
religious life of a community."
A Grand Theft Auto myth should (in my opinion) fulfil these
criterias:
1) Something not to be found accidentaly by just going there
(like the ghost cars and ghost graffiti)
2) Demanding specific knowledge or certain acts from the player,
to enable it to appear (like when entering Blue Hell)
3) Not being a static find (like a sign - that's an easter
egg), something should actually happen (like if Leatherface
attacked you)
4) It should not be revealed very shortly after a game release,
and if actually discovered early, it should take time to find
out how to make it happen again.
The uttermost reason the myths have become myths, is that
somebody experienced something that they alone or very few
players had experienced, like if Leatherface would appear
as result of certain acts from the player. There has been
a lot of claims of seeing both Bigfoot, Leatherface and other
stuff, but nothing followed by hared evidence (except the
pictures proven fakes).
Except from the proven myths mentioned above, none of the
other myths has actually been revealed, allthough hundreds
or maybe thousands of players have used hours and days to
search them. But there has been recorded several hints and
references to The Epsilon Cult - which is the far most interesting
myth, as it is both part of the game story, and clues and
hints is to be found on several locations within the game.
The strongest hint that there should be something more, is
that Rockstar has made a website for The Epsilon Program,
with a description of how to join the Epsilon cult. There
are also certain hints of UFO's and aliens in the game, but
I will not discuss that subject here. During my hunt, I've
collected a few bits and pieces, and decided to present them
on this website.
There has been claimes of an e-mail message sent from Rockstar,
stating that the romours of Bigfoot sightings are false, but
concluding that "there is something in the woods".
You can find more information of this, and the game in general,
at Wikipedia.org.
There was also an interview with the Rockstar CEO, you can
read it further down on this page.
Did you find something, have a comment, or want to discuss
The Epsilon myth?
